Taco Bell Beef Class Action

In 2011, class action lawyers took to court and filed a consumer fraud claim against Taco Bell that accused the company of misleading consumers by claiming that the meet in its tacos did not meet the USDA definition of “beef.” Unlike so many companies that buckle under the pressure, hide from the media, and settle the case (and pay off the lawyers), Taco Bell did not back down.  Instead, the company mounted an aggressive advertising and media campaign to defend its product and corporate reputation.  In response to the allegation, Taco Bell documented the content of its beef, noting that its uses 100% USDA-inspected beef and that its recipe contains seasonings, spices, water, and other ingredients, just as if cooked at home.  The personal injury firm behind the case backed down and withdrew the suit.
